MHMC (Maine Health Management Coalition) is a group working to improve the safety and quality of Maine healthcare.

We are your neighbors – Maine employers, doctors, health plans and hospitals – working together to improve the safety and quality of healthcare in Maine.

We are staffed by an Executive Director who is supported by a Medical Adviser, Project Leaders, and several Steering Committees. As of winter 2008, the Coalition has over 50 members and represents over 200,000 Maine workers.

MHMC brings diverse views together on how to improve healthcare quality and safety.

Maine employers, doctors, health plans, and hospitals all have a stake in improving the safety and quality of healthcare. We work together to:

• Collect accurate, reliable data to measure how we’re doing
• Evaluate the data to assign quality ratings
• Present the data in a way that’s easy to understand and use.

MHMC supports healthcare providers, purchasers, and consumers.

We work with:

• Healthcare providers (doctors and hospitals) to measure the quality and safety of their care as the first step to any needed improvements
• Purchasers (health plans and employers) to learn how to get the best healthcare quality for their dollars
• Consumers to become active purchasers and partners in care. Maine employees have free access to MHMC website data. They can use quality ratings to make wise healthcare choices and tip sheets on how to get best quality care.

MHMC offers you healthcare information to “buy the best.”

Our mission: “The MHMC is an employer-led partnership among multiple stakeholders working collaboratively to maximize improvement in the value of healthcare services delivered to MHMC members’ employees and dependents.”

This means, many groups with differing views on healthcare, work together with common purpose to help you decide what quality healthcare you want for you and your family, and where to get it. These groups include:

Membership in the MHMC allows members to work collaboratively to effect a system change that will improve profitability and improve people’s lives.

The Coalition has built a trusted and collaborative reputation, and provides information, tools and techniques that work. Our members are interested in having a healthy and productive workforce, as well as a philosophical commitment to their people and value-based purchasing. By working together, we can better understand the healthcare system and leverage the group effort to effect change.
